چکیده
Seventy five eye drops samples were collected from different pharmacies in Cairo, Egypt. Out of 75 tested samples, 58 (77.3%) are contaminated with bacterial growth when cultured on MYP medium. The bacterial count ranging from 1.0 CFU/ml to 6.0x10 CFU/ml. The microscopic examination indicated that 2 57 out of 133 isolates are Gram positive, spore forming bacilli. From 58 positive samples 32 samples were found to be contaminated with Bacillus spp. (55.1%). So, the contaminated samples with Bacillus spp. represent 42.6% of the total eye drops samples. Out of 57 Bacillus isolates, 41 (71.9%) isolates produced different levels of hemolysins. Two Bacillus isolates (MAM-9 and MAM-40) produced large quantity of phospholipace C around their colonies in addition to hemolysin production. These two isolates were also lethal to mice. Bacillus spp are resistant to gamma radiation, ceftazidime, cefuroxime and colistin. Ten kGy reduced the viable count of Bacillus strain MAM-40 by 4.17 log cycles.

Background: The possibility that cosmetic products may act as vehicles for pathogen transfer is a major health concern. The risk of this occurring is higher with cosmetics used around eyes, which could be responsible for a number of infectious diseases. This study was performed to evaluate the bacteriological quality of these products in Iran and also to study factors that predispose to bacteri...
متن کاملThe Evaluation of the virulence factors of clinical Candida isolates and the anti-biofilm activity of Elettaria cardamomum against multi-drug resistant Candida albicans
Background and Purpose: Today, treatment of life-threatening fungal infections, caused by Candida species, has become a major problem. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the antifungal susceptibility patterns of different clinical Candida isolates, determine the virulence factors in multi-drug resistant (MDR) Candida species, and assess the anti-biofilm activity of Elettaria cardamomum ...
متن کاملEvaluation of esterase and hemolysin activities of different Candida species isolated from vulvovaginitis cases in Lorestan Province, Iran
Background and Purpose: Annually affecting millions of women, vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is commonly described by signs and symptoms of vulvovaginal inflammation in the presence of Candida species. Today, the detection of the virulence factors plays a major role in the understanding of pathogenesis of candidiasis and helps produce new anticandidial drugs to improve its treatment efficiency....
متن کاملComparison of hyaluronic acid-containing topical eye drops with carbomer-based topical ocular gel as a tear replacement in canine keratoconjunctivitis sicca: A prospective study in twenty five dogs
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a hyaluronic acid containing eye drop in ameliorating ocular surface pathology and discomfort in canine keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS). Twenty five dogs with KCS treated with a topical carbomer (CA)-based tear replacement gel were moved to treatment with a hyaluronic acid (HA)-containing tear replacement eye drop. Dogs were subject to a fu...
متن کاملBacterial Contamination and Antibiotic Resistance of Staphylococcus Aureus Isolated from Automated Teller Machine
Abstract Background and Objective: Automated Teller Machine (ATMs) is likely to be contaminated with various microorganisms specially pathogen germs. This may be due to their exposure to dust and their vast dermal contact with multiple users. This study investigated the bacterial contamination on the keyboard of ATMs and drug resistance of the bacteria isolated from them. Material and M...
